    Topic: Language learning

What are some reasons why people learn a foreign language?

Some people study a second language (out of the need) to immigrate to another country. [Crack IELTS with Rob] Some others need language skills to get a decent job. There are also those who get a kick out of learning and relish intellectual challenges.

What are some benefits of learning a foreign language?

Learning a foreign language does not only equip people with a language skill, but it also opens up the door to a whole new culture, where they can learn about the history and the way of life of a foreign country. This will make people be aware of the diversity in the world.

What are some ways that a person can learn a foreign language?

We can study foreign languages by utilizing the Internet to find free lessons. [Crack IELTS with Rob] Besides, we can also speak with the native to improve our speaking skills. Moreover, language can be taught by books and CDs, which are a dime a dozen.

What do you think is the most difficult part of learning another language?

I would say it’s the speaking skill. Every language has its own sound patterns. For example, the “r” sound in French is very distinctive and English speakers don’t have an equivalent. [Crack IELTS with Rob] It commonly takes a while before our mouth muscles start to pick up on the pronunciation of unfamiliar sounds.

Do you think language learning is more important for young people than it is for old people?

In this era of globalization, yes, it is more crucial for youngsters to become multilingual in order to participate in international issues. [Crack IELTS with Rob] As for old people, they are past their prime, there’s no reason for them to learn a language other than for recreation.

Who do you think is more willing to learn a foreign language young people or old people?

It will be the young since they have more work-related incentives to learn a foreign language. Older people are generally dyed-in-the-wool conservatives who are unable to adapt to anything new.

Who do you think is more enthusiastic about learning a foreign language, children or adults?

Well, it depends, for both adults and children, they are only willing to learn in earnest when they have an incentive to do so. [Crack IELTS with Rob] For children, this can be purely out of passion. For adults, it tends to be out of ambition.

Who do you think to find it easier to learn a foreign language, children or adults?

Definitely children, research has shown that during the crucial period of cortex development in babies and young children, they can pick up new words and sounds effortlessly. [Crack IELTS with Rob] They are particularly receptive to learning or tracing different forms of information.
