I don’t usually do handcraft, but when my mom had her birthday last May, I baked a birthday cake myself. So off the top of my head, this is the first thing that comes to mind.

Actually, I used to buy birthday gifts, but this time I wanted to give my mom a surprise. And I think no gift is more genuine than a gift you made yourself. So I decided to bake a delicious cake for my mom. It turned out pretty good even though it was the first time I had baked a cake.

Before I made the cake, I looked up a tutorial video on a cooking website called Youku. On my mom’s birthday, I just followed the steps the video showed. I prepared lots of ingredients like cake flour and butter. And after the mixing, I just poured the dough into a tray and put it into the oven. I remember after around 30 minutes, the oven alerted me that the cake had been baked perfectly.

You know, the whole process was a breeze. It wasn’t exactly rocket science. Most importantly, my mom was over the moon that I made the cake for her. She had never eaten a homemade cake before that day. Even though it took me some time to make a cake by myself, it was totally worth it because I was very fulfilled making my mom happy on her special day.
