The bar chat illustrates the percentage of boys and girls who participated in various sports in New Zealand in 2002. [Crack IELTS with Rob]
Overall, it is clear that there were significant differences between the rate of boys and girls who took part in most of these sports.
Among girls, 25% played netball and a lower percentage – 22% enjoyed swimming. About 8% and 7% of girls played tennis and basketball respectively, which was only slightly lower than boys for these 2 sports, while 4% of girls took part in athletics. [Crack IELTS with Rob] This was followed by the figure for martial arts and cricket, at 2% and 1% respectively. Participation in other sports accounted for 10% of the total.
In contrast, among boys, only 1% played netball and a higher percentage – 13% enjoyed swimming. About 9%, 8% and 3% of boys played tennis, basketball and athletics respectively. While the highest percentage was belonged to soccer, at 24%, this figure was 18% higher than the figure of girls. [Crack IELTS with Rob] The rate of Martial arts and cricket accounted for 7% and 8% respectively. Participation in other sports made up 17% of the total.
