    Topic: Magazines and Newspapers

Do you think it’s important to keep up with the news?

From my own view, keeping up/ staying informed with the news plays a crucial role in personal life. It allows people to live easier and thus govern themselves. Furthermore, it can help one make informed decisions when performing their civic duties.

What are the main differences between magazines and newspapers?

There are several disparities between magazines and newspapers. First, magazines are made to sell products and entertain while newspapers are used to inform readers about current affairs news happening in every corner of the world. Besides, magazines are covered with eye-catching images while newspapers have merely black and white photos.

Why do some people only read headlines when they read newspapers?

There are several reasons why readers scan the headlines. Nowadays, most of us are always on the go due to the hustle and bustle of city life. Therefore, they merely want to seek for the most interesting/ intriguing articles of the day. Furthermore, there are articles that do not play a crucial role in their life so they just skip them.

Some people say we can’t believe everything we read in newspapers and news magazines. What do you think?

There are several reasons why we can’t believe everything in newspapers. First, there are gutter presses that contain misleading information, so it is difficult to separate between facts and opinions. Furthermore, some news agencies are controlled by government, so they merely release information that is biased to the people who have power.

What are the main media outlets in your country today?

The most popular media outlet in my country is television, the same as everywhere else. Due to the improvement of living standards, each household has at least one TV. Some families even own 2 or 3 to satisfy the need of every member.

What are some of the main differences between getting information from magazines and getting information from her other media such as TV or the Internet?

There are several disparities between the 2 types of information. First, magazines do not provide daily information because they only put out issues once a month or even once a quarter. However, we can get daily updated from the internet or television. Besides, magazines usually specialize in one particular aspect while other sources cover a wide selection of topics.

How could we avoid unrealizable information appearing on the internet?

There are several ways to put it into practice. The best way is to pick up accredited news and check out the credentials of the author. Besides, we must be critical readers to separate between facts and opinions.

Do you think watching TV is a good way to get information?

Well, it is obviously that it can be a good way to get quick news and reliable information. However, due to limited broadcasting time, television news is not really informative because it is difficult for the audience to get the details.
